All Nespresso capsules are fully recyclable at BEE’AH recycling facility in Sharjah using a custom separation machine developed by Nespresso. This specialized machine is able to separate the aluminium & coffee grounds. Using a mechanical process, the coffee is sent up on a conveyor and into a shredder, which opens the capsules & sends the coffee into a trommel. Trommel rotates 360’ degrees where the coffee grounds exit through gravity and all the aluminium exits out the end of the trommel. The aluminium undergoes a further recycling process at a steal smelter where it is reused to make new aluminium products. The leftover coffee ground, are given to the GREENFIELDS Farms to use as a soil additive to improve the soil conditions in United Arab Emirates to grow produces which we buy every day. Coffee is globally accepted wet waste composting solution that uses food waste only to serve as nutrient rich soil food.

Please leave the recycling on your doorstep. Recycling should be left visible, and will be collected upon the delivery of your order.

How are my capsules recycled? What happens with them?
After collection, the coffee pods are taken to BEE’AH recycling facility in Sharjah to separate the aluminium & coffee grounds. The coffee grounds are given to the GREENFIELDS Farms to use as a soil additive to improve the soil conditions in United Arab Emirates to grow produces which we buy every day. Coffee is globally accepted wet waste composting solution that uses food waste only to serve as nutrient rich soil food. The aluminium will be transformed into new products.
How can I be sure that they are really recycled?
Nespresso works closely with service providers to ensure that capsules collected are recycled. Nespresso's recycling program has been verified by third party auditors and monthly checks are conducted to monitor the volume of recycled capsules.
Why does Nespresso use aluminium when other materials are available?
Nespresso use aluminium for our capsules as it protects the quality of our coffee and it's infinitely recyclable. Aluminium comes with multiple functional and environmental benefits that make it an excellent choice for our capsules.
Can I open the capsules and only recycle the aluminium part?
Yes, capsules can be opened, and coffee grounds removed from the capsules and used in your garden on a day-to-day basis. The Aluminium of the capsules be sent to your nearest boutique or be handed over to your local courier or Nespresso courier. This is why we have invested in a range of recycling services and a dedicated processing facility.
